Here is a collection of great music by the members of Bill Carter's Presbybop ensembles. Recorded on the road, in concert halls and churches, these digital music files offer highlights from 2001-2012. We have kept them in our archives until now, when we share them with you.

Five of the the tunes have never been recorded on Presbybop CD, and the rest of them differ significantly from the original recordings. That is the nature of jazz - musicians creating in motion, taking risks, relying on one another while expressing the passion that each musician feels in the moment.

These recordings were LIVE, some taken from sound boards or portable recorders. They have not been tidied up in a studio, but are offered to our friends and fans as true reflections of the joy and excitement of this music.

Here is the little poem that Bill recites at the beginning: "Rumpelstiltskin" Every quartet needs a comedian. We have five. One dances naked by firelight We expect his heavy feet To lift from the soil. The second wisecracker Gives the monologue That starts the laughter. The third collects a sack of bland straw And spins the whole lot into Threads of gold. A fourth smirks on his bench, Convening the tornado That swirls around him. Who is the fifth joker, Serving up mirth? The One who gives All things birth.

Presbybop Music is a musical venture of Bill Carter, jazz pianist and Presbyterian minister. After years of pretending to split the life of faith from the music of jazz, Bill has been trying to find links between the two halves of his brain. Presbybop Music is his attempt to integrate his strong Presbyterian faith with the rhythms of bebop. ... more
