Bill Carter’s latest book explores a collection of fifteen ancient psalms, known as the “Songs of Ascent.” These ancient prayer-songs were sung and spoken by multitudes of pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem, and they offer insight and clarity for anybody on a spiritual journey. Psalms 120-134 reveal essential issues for spiritual growth, pushing us to go deeper and further as we move closer to God.

Description:
The Pilgrim Road is the metaphor for our spiritual journey. It is not an easy trip, for it reveals the recurring challenges within and around us. Yet we hear a persistent invitation to keep moving, to keep trusting, and to keep growing. Each chapter weaves the stories from Bill’s pastoral experiences with rich biblical reflection. It is the work of a seasoned spiritual leader who shares the wisdom he has discovered from his own long journey.
The psalms of Israel have shaped Bill’s life for over fifty years. They have also shaped his imagination as a jazz musician. This book arose out of the continuing reflection that created his Psalms Without Words double CD with the Presbybop Quartet, also available on this website as a download or physical recording.
